Talented Teachers Who Love Kids
Teaching children to swim is our privilege and passion. We feel that every individual deserves a positive, rewarding experience while learning skills and confidence in the water, and we accomplish this through our amazing swim teachers.
Carefully selected for their aptitude for working with children, enthusiasm for education, and competence in the water, each Emler instructor passes a rigorous background check before joining our team and entering our extensive training program.
Training begins with a physically demanding teacher training weekend that includes 16 hours of classroom instruction along with in-water training, concluding with a final exam. Once an instructor has passed this test, he or she is invited to train for 40 more hours alongside one of our veteran teachers during swim classes. Our Waterbabies teachers must also pass 12 additional hours of classroom and in-water training.
Because safety is our primary concern, every Emler Swim School instructor is in the process of certifying and re-certifying in CPR and first aid, allowing them to respond immediately and appropriately in any emergency. Regular practice of Emergency Action Plans is required to reinforce their training.
Just as we believe that learning swim skills is a lifelong commitment, Emler is committed to ongoing education for every team member. Each year, our instructors participate in several H2O (Huddle 2 Optimize) Meetings, where they learn new teaching techniques and safety improvements to put to work immediately in their lessons.
